The Pace of Life

Everyone these days has a watch, or at least a cell phone they can check. Everyone these days are in a hurry. Tick-tock tick-tock. And for what? Why are we so in a hurry? Is it that we are go, go, go for selfish reasons? Is it because we are trying to give part of our selves to too many people? There needs to be a healthy mix between giving and taking time to do personal things. Right now, my kids are in bed and I should be in the shower but instead I find myself wanting to write to you. The pace of life should always be checked by personal needs, giving to others, and taking enough time to rest. It is important to go for it, to achieve and exceed goals and expectations. But there will always be room for that.

Make sure to take time for personal development. There will be a time to dream and a time to reach for the stars. But right now let us start at square one. A baby has to learn to push up before she can walk. A baby has to learn to walk before she can run. So let’s take a baby step together. Jesus is holding our hand helping us one baby step at a time. The first step is to lean on Him to help you get through the day and to reach those goals I was talking about.

You must learn to say no to others. Learning when it is OK to say no to others can be scary, especially when you aren’t sure what to expect. If you give all your time away to others you don’t have time for what is most important. But on the other hand, learning when it is ok to ask someone for help is important.

Jesus lived daily life in close relationships with the disciples and others. Leaning on others for comfort are good first steps to achieving your dreams. Learning when to tell people it’s ok to admit you need some help.

The hard worker, or the ant in Proverbs is a good example. Proverbs 6:6 says “Go to the ant you sluggard; consider it’s ways and be wise!” They have to get food in the warmer months and store it up for the winter months. Such hard work in many cases carrying 50 times their body weight. Everyone has a job in the colony and everyone does it. Oh if we could be like the ants. Who toil and struggle to provide for each other and not just in it to win it. It is good to take time for yourself, to do things you need to do for you, but it’s important to remember to look after your fellow man. A friend of mine used to tell me. “Look for one thing, even one thing you can do well today, for yourself or others.” What wise advice! I’m going to leave you with a journal entry of mine from a while back.

Lord,

I just love You so much. You are my morning song. My melody. . . Be my everything. Help me wait for that which you have promised. You are so beautiful to me. In the midst of suffering You are still God. Be with believers in persecuted countries. Give them strength to get through each day. Your mercies are new every morning. I love You so much. You are the apple of my eye, my morning song, my Everything.

Yours,

Becky
