A Surprising God

Psalm 103 1 Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things (!!!) so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 6 The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. 7 He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: 8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. Some days, like today, I can feel Your presence as I see Your beauty so evident in the sunlight, the artistic houses, the trees and clear blue skies. Wow we serve a great God! I am so pleased to follow Him, to thank Him, and to encounter Him. So much of life is choosing to enjoy walking with Jesus. Help me...

The Absurdity of Love

By on Jul 30, 2016 in Eternal Thoughts | 0 comments

The strange absurdity of love is one of those great amazing things in life. You can’t just live without love and at the same time wish it wasn’t so difficult. Wouldn’t life just be simple if you loved someone and they simply loved you back? I’m not even just talking about romantic love. Sometimes you will be loving toward someone continual for as long as you know them but it may not stir them to respond in the same. Kind of like how parents love their children and their may not care about their parents, or vice-versa; much like the prodigal son. This son despised his father by asking for his inheritance and thus saying he didn’t care if he was dead or not, he just wanted his stuff and be off with it. Day after day you are longing for someone who doesn’t love you back. Is it a vanity that will just pass, love forgotten leaving the deepest sorrow of a lost love? Maybe it’s similar...

Dancing with Him

And now just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust Him too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with Him. Let your roots grow down into Him and draw your nourishment from Him. See that you are growing in the Lord and become strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all He has done. Colossians 2: 6-7 This is the God we are privileged to serve! The God who chooses to let me be apart of what He is doing. The God who loves me so intricately and beautifully; a God who writes love notes to me all day from the sky. He has never and will never give up on me. And oh, just the way He is with me! He calls my name, ever so softly to Himself, always seeking me out so we can be together, just abiding in Him. He truly is Lord! These last few weeks have been so wonderful! Well we all know life happens, but just…...

Take my Breath Away

This was an interesting dream I had while I was napping with my boys the other day. In the dream, I was rock climbing. Well, at least, I knew I was about to start rock climbing. But before I started climbing, I immediately looked up, and I saw God the Father, who is embodied in cloud form, scaling the heights ahead of me, creating new footholds for my feet and strongholds for my hands. In this way, I was able to climb with Him, so my climb was much easier. This was because He helped me and did so much of the work for me. Song of Songs 2:8-9 says this: “Listen! My Lover. Look! Here He comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over the hills. My lover is a gazelle or a young stag…” In these verses the beloveds domain is the cliffs and mountains, where He longs to bring His bride if only she would embrace the challenges, trusting her Beloved to make things possible...

Love is Worth Everything

I have known my mother law, Cathy Frye, since I was twelve years old.  In the last 5 or 6 years since being engaged to and then marrying her wonderful son Michael, Mom has become a key player in my life specifically. We moved back from Texas almost 3 years ago and she has never stopped in her tireless efforts to help. Day in and day out. That is so huge isn’t it! And it’s not a “Let me help you, MY way.” It’s like more suggestive and kind in it’s approach. She is so loving and compassionate. Even and especially Without words, I can clearly see how she is trying to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus to me. She helped care for my boys when I was too sick to care for myself. I have mentioned to you, my Reader, about the pictures I sometimes get from the Lord. These pictures are always consistent with what God is telling me or teaching me. I become more...

A Promise Fulfilled

Many times I write under what I call “inspiration,” but today I want to write to you because this last week has been so good. There is such a finality in the the word “good,” isn’t there? When God made Adam and finished with Creation, He said, “It is good.” Not great, not fantastic, but just “good.” How perfect is that? When Paul fell on the road to Damascus and was struck with blindness, that was “good.” When Esther became Queen of Persia, though a young Jewish maiden in a pagan land, that was good, wasn’t it? And finally when Peter reached out his hand to the Lord, and said “Help me! I am drowning!” That was good too. Jesus saved him. Many times we feel like Daniel in the Lion’s Den, so unsure of what is up ahead, that we have trouble trusting the One who made us for the future. I think of...
